Effects of sampling and storage procedures on 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing results of kelp microbiomes

Bertille Burgunter-Delamare et al.

Summary: Researchers tested two simple alternative methods for sampling microbial diversity associated with the kelp S. latissima: silica gel conservation of tissue and swab samples preserved in DNA/RNA shield solution. The results showed that both methods were effective in separating different microbiomes of algae, but differences were observed for rare genera and sequences, emphasizing the importance of including blank samples in silica gel-preserved samples.
