The Contribution of Various Plasticity Mechanisms to the Deformation Behavior of Gradient Nanograined FeNi Alloy

Aleksandr V. Korchuganov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the deformation behavior of a gradient grained FeNi sample under uniaxial tension using molecular dynamics simulations. The study shows that plasticity of the sample develops through sequential activation of different mechanisms including structural defect generation, grain boundary migration, and grain boundary sliding. Plasticity onset is provided by partial dislocations that produce stacking faults in large grains. Other mechanisms such as twinning and grain boundary migration gradually affect smaller grains.

Size-dependent deformation mechanisms in copper gradient nano-grained structure: A molecular dynamics simulation

Chen-Yun He et al.

Summary: In this paper, molecular dynamics simulations were used to investigate the tensile properties and deformation mechanisms of gradient nano-grained (GNG) copper structures. The results showed that larger gradients resulted in higher strength within a certain size scale range. The non-uniform stress distribution caused by the grain size heterogeneous led to a synergistic deformation induced inverse Hall-Petch phenomenon. The dominant deformation mechanism varied with grain size, with dislocation slips emitted from grain boundaries dominating deformation for grains with 30-100nm, and grain boundary activities becoming the main deformation carrier for grains with 10-20nm.
