Parent grain reconstruction from partially or fully transformed microstructures in MTEX

Frank Niessen et al.

Summary: This article presents a versatile generic framework for parent grain reconstruction and its application in various crystal symmetry combinations. The framework's flexibility and the capability of variant analysis are demonstrated through example workflows. The add-on function library ORTools provides advanced orientation relationship discovery and analysis options.

Formation and Control of Transverse Corner Cracks in the Continuous Casting Slab of a Microalloyed Steel

Yadong Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that transverse corner cracks tend to appear on the valleys of oscillation marks on the continuous casting slab, accompanied by refining microstructures in the vicinity of the cracks. By optimizing the secondary cooling scheme, it is possible to prevent the temperature at the slab corner in the bending and straightening zone from entering the brittle zone, significantly reducing the occurrence of transverse corner cracks.

Holding Time Influence on the Hot Ductility Behavior of a Continuously Cast Low Alloy Steel

Marina Gontijo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hot ductility behavior of continuously cast low alloyed steel and finds that there is no significant change in ductility until 300 seconds, with a change in behavior observed at 3600 seconds. This change was further confirmed through images and precipitation kinetics simulations.

Effect of boron accompanied by chromium, vanadium and titanium on kinetics of austenite grain growth

Beata Bialobrzeska

Summary: The study aimed to analyse the effect of boron on austenite grain size of low-alloy cast steels during austenitization. Results showed a significant influence of boron on austenite grain size, which can be compensated by alloying elements creating stable carbides and nitrides.

Understanding the high temperature side of the hot ductility curve for steels

B. Mintz et al.

Summary: The study found that dynamic recrystallisation cannot occur during straightening of steel, leading to a possible overestimation of ductility, especially for steels with deformation induced ferrite films where cracking is less likely. However, for TWIP steels, cracking can occur even with high measured ductility due to the possibility of insufficient recrystallisation.
