National Prevalence of Salmonella enterica Serotype Kentucky ST198 with High-Level Resistance to Ciprofloxacin and Extended-Spectrum Cephalosporins in China, 2013 to 2017

Honghu Chen et al.

Summary: A retrospective screening was conducted in China to understand the national prevalence of ciprofloxacin-resistant S. Kentucky, revealing the spread of multidrug-resistant ST198 strains in five provinces and suggesting diverse origins for the Chinese isolates. This study highlights the necessity of surveillance for the high-risk clone to prevent further dissemination in China.

A case of blaNDM-1-positive Salmonella Kottbus, Denmark, November 2020

Hans Linde Nielsen et al.

Summary: An 82-year-old Danish man was infected with carbapenemase-producing blaNDM-1-positive Salmonella Kottbus. The blaNDM-1 gene was also found in Escherichia coli and Citrobacter freundii in the same patient, suggesting inter-species plasmid transfer in vivo. Analysis identified similar plasmids originating from East and Southeast Asia, indicating a possible origin for the infection.

A case of Salmonella osteomyelitis mimicking a malignant tumor of the humerus in an immunocompetent adult patient identified using broad-range polymerase chain reaction with sequencing of a biopsied specimen

Naoya Itoh et al.

Summary: A case of Salmonella osteomyelitis in an immunocompetent adult patient was reported, which required differentiation from malignancy. The patient recovered well after treatment, indicating that broad-range PCR may be helpful in determining the causative organism in suspected specific infections when culture results are negative.
