Experimental Study on Evolution of Fracture Network and Permeability Characteristics of Bituminous Coal Under Repeated Mining Effect

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Mining of upper multilayers in deep coal seams generates cyclic loading-unloading stresses in bottom layers, which improve permeability and enhance coalbed methane gas drainage. Testing showed that permeability increased approximately by 5.8 times after loading-unloading cyclic tests. Different numbers of loading-unloading cycles produced similar fracturing effects, with the largest effect occurring within the effective stress range of 4 to 11 MPa.

Inducing swirl flow inside the pipes of flat-plate solar collector by using multiple nozzles for enhancing thermal performance

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This numerical study aims to improve the thermal performance of a flat-plate solar collector by inducing swirl flow inside the tube through the use of nozzles. The study found that a single-nozzle swirl generator exhibited the highest thermal performance factor, outperforming dual, triple, and quad nozzle configurations. The results showed that increasing mass flow rate led to higher heat extraction rate and kinetic energy rate, while decreasing friction factor and outlet temperature. Additionally, the study revealed that the injection angle affected outlet temperature, friction factor, and kinetic energy rate.

Negative effects of multiple global change factors on soil microbial diversity

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: Global change has led to a decrease in soil bacterial and fungal diversity, with negative effects from factors like decreased precipitation, increased nitrogen addition, wetting-drying cycles, and drought, as well as positive effects from elevated CO2, warming, and increased precipitation. This decline in microbial diversity is strongly correlated with mean annual temperature and soil characteristics, rather than mean annual precipitation. Interactions between multiple global change factors exacerbate these negative effects, highlighting the importance of long-term, multi-factor experiments to understand how soil microbial diversity responds to global change.
