Infection by phloem-limited phytoplasma affects mineral nutrient homeostasis in tomato leaf tissues

Sara Buoso et al.

Summary: Phytoplasmas are pathogenic microorganisms that cause devastating damage to over 700 plant species worldwide. This study examined changes in mineral nutrient concentration and gene expression in tomato plants infected with 'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani'. The results showed that the infection had significant effects on ion homeostasis and the expression of ion transporter genes in the host plant.

Multilocus gene analysis reveals the presence of two phytoplasma groups in Impatiens balsamina showing flat stem and phyllody

Priyam Panda et al.

Summary: Rose balsam nurseries in Uttar Pradesh and Tripura states of India showed symptoms such as flat stem, little leaf, and phyllody. Phytoplasmas belonging to 16SrI-B and 16SrII-D subgroups were identified in the tested samples, confirming their presence and identity through sequence comparison and gene amplification. This study marks the first report of detecting these phytoplasmas in Impatiens balsamina worldwide.
