MicroRNA-4516 in Urinary Exosomes as a Biomarker of Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

Zobia Umair et al.

Summary: This study collected urine samples from participants in Korea and found that hsa-miR-4516 is upregulated in patients with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), regardless of the presence of Turner syndrome. The upregulation of miR-4516 in the ovary was confirmed in a mouse model of POI, accompanied by a decrease in the predicted target protein STAT3. These findings suggest that miR-4516 may serve as a diagnostic marker for POI.

Placenta-Derived MicroRNAs in the Pathophysiology of Human Pregnancy

Peng Xu et al.

Summary: Disorders in placental cells are closely associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, and microRNAs in the placenta play important roles in regulating placental cell behaviors. Placental exosome miRNAs can potentially target maternal cells for intercellular communication between the mother and fetus, serving as novel biomarkers for predicting diseases such as preeclampsia. The transfer of placental miRNAs through exosomes may offer targeted strategies for diagnosing, prognosing, or treating preeclampsia.

Preeclamptic Women Have Disrupted Placental microRNA Expression at the Time of Preeclampsia Diagnosis: Meta-Analysis

Andja Cirkovic et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the disrupted miRNA expression in women with preeclampsia (PE) compared to those without PE. The results indicated significant differences in expression levels of certain miRNAs in placenta and peripheral blood of women with PE, suggesting the important role of miRNAs in the pathophysiology of PE.

Genetic and Transcriptomic Biomarkers in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Current Situation and the Road Ahead

Julie Lake et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases are complex and heterogeneous, making the discovery and validation of biomarkers challenging. Efforts to find genetic and transcriptomic indicators for disease diagnosis and treatment direction are ongoing and important. The next generation of biomarker studies show promise in implementing multi-modal approaches for large scale datasets, but require an open science framework for success.

Summary: This study found that GLS and GAB affect miRNAs and oxidative status in glioblastoma cells. Silencing GLS and overexpressing GAB altered certain miRNAs, as well as oxidative status and antioxidant enzyme activity. Some miRNAs and total glutathione were identified as strong biomarkers of glioblastoma proliferation.
