Interplay of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors in organ-specific vessel maintenance

Sinem Karaman et al.

Summary: Vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs) and their receptors (VEGFRs) play crucial roles in the development and maintenance of blood and lymphatic vessels. This study reveals that additional deletion of VEGFR1 or VEGFR3 exacerbates vascular regression induced by VEGFR2 deletion in certain organs, but not in others. The findings highlight previously unknown functions of VEGFR1 and VEGFR3 in endothelial cells.

A loss-of-function mutation p.T256M in NDRG4 is implicated in the pathogenesis of pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (PA/VSD) and tetralogy of Fallot (TOF)

Jiayu Peng et al.

Summary: Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (PA/VSD) is a rare congenital heart disease characterized by lack of luminal continuity and blood flow, similar to tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). A probably damaging variant p.T256M of the NDRG4 gene was identified in patients with PA/VSD or TOF, leading to impaired cardiac myocyte proliferation and cell-cycle arrest.

Screening of NKX2.5 gene in Moroccan Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) patients: worldwide mutation rate comparisons show a significant association between R25C variant and TOF phenotype

Ihssane El Bouchikhi et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the NKX2.5 mutation rate in our tetralogy of Fallot population is around 6.4%, with no significant difference compared to previous studies. Furthermore, a comparison of R25C mutation rates between atrial septal defect and tetralogy of Fallot populations globally shows a particular association of R25C mutation with tetralogy of Fallot phenotype.
