Serum Soluble OX40 as a Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarker for Drug-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome/Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms

Yasuhiro Mitsui et al.

Summary: This study found that serum soluble OX40 (sOX40) levels in patients with DIHS/DRESS are correlated with disease severity. Elevated serum sOX40 levels also predict HHV-6 reactivation in patients with DIHS/DRESS.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS): A tertiary care centre retrospective study

Blanca R. Del Pozzo-Magana et al.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical and laboratory features of patients with Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). The results showed that DRESS is a serious condition with significant morbidity and mortality. The most common culprit drugs were antibiotics and anticonvulsants. Clinical features included fever, skin rash, and internal organ involvement. Eosinophilia was a common laboratory abnormality.

Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DReSS)/Drug-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DiHS)-Readdressing the DReSS

Hannah Stirton et al.

Summary: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DReSS), also known as drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DiHS), is a severe, systemic, T cell mediated drug reaction involving cutaneous, hematologic, and internal organ damage. The pathogenesis of DReSS is multifactorial, involving drug exposure, genetic predisposition, viral reactivation, and immune dysregulation. Diagnosis is challenging due to delayed, stepwise, and heterogeneous clinical features. Diagnostic criteria and testing methods are available. Treatment involves withdrawal of the culprit drug, supportive care, and immunosuppression.

Plasmacytoid dendritic cells diminution in peripheral blood is prevalent in drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms and may precede human herpesvirus 6 reactivation

Shao-Hsuan Hsu et al.

Summary: The study found that the decrease in pDC levels is significantly more common in DRESS patients and occurs before HHV-6 reactivation, suggesting that the decrease of pDC may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of viral reactivation.
