MXene terminating groups =O, -F or -OH, -F or =O, -OH, -F, or =O, -OH, -Cl?

Tariq Bashir et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the nature of chemical bonding in MXenes and discusses the surface terminators of several MXenes. The study finds that =O, -OH, -F, and -Cl are typical MXene surface terminators, but recent investigations show that -OH cannot be considered an intrinsic termination species in MXenes. Additionally, the paper discusses different etching approaches for MXene synthesis, the dependence of MXene conductivity on terminating groups, and the emission of gaseous products during chemical transformations.

Transition Metal and Rare-Earth Metal Doping in SnO2 Nanoparticles

Divya Rehani et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles of tin oxide doped with iron oxide and europium oxide were synthesized through solid-state synthesis method. The results showed that the luminescence intensity and grain boundary development in the samples depend on the doping percentage. Physical measurements confirmed the presence of room temperature ferromagnetism and clear images of grain boundaries. The conductivity studies showed an increase in resistance to Fe/Eu doping. The narrow band gap and tetragonal rutile phase of tin oxide nanoparticles make them potential candidates for magneto-opto-electronic device applications.

The investigation and DFT calculation on the gas sensing properties of nanostructured SnO2

Rui Li et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical investigations were conducted on the performance of SnO2 as a sensor of gaseous ethanol. It was found that SnO2 with hollow-sphere structured showed better sensing ability than other morphologies, with a response to ethanol gas approximately 68 times higher than other tested gases at an operating temperature of 330 degrees C. Density functional theory calculations supported a general mechanism describing the performance of the SnO2 sensor in the presence of gaseous ethanol, suggesting that SnO2-based nanostructured materials can be used in selective and efficient sensors of gaseous ethanol.
