Domination of methylene blue over rhodamine B during simultaneous photocatalytic degradation by TiO2 nanoparticles in an aqueous binary solution under UV irradiation

Nurul Amanina A. Suhaimi et al.

Summary: The simultaneous photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and rhodamine B by anatase TiO2 catalyst under UV light irradiation showed higher efficiency for methylene blue than for rhodamine B in the mixed solution. This could be attributed to the steric interactions of the planar methylene blue molecules inhibiting the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B.

A review on optical bandgap engineering in TiO2 nanostructures via doping and intrinsic vacancy modulation towards visible light applications

Radhika Nair et al.

Summary: The engineering of the bandgap in semiconductor nanostructures from ultraviolet to visible is highly significant in various applications. Techniques such as doping, co-doping, and intrinsic vacancy modulation have been found to effectively narrow the bandgap. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a well-studied material for UV photocatalysis, and its bandgap can be controlled through the modulation of intrinsic vacancies. Doping and co-doping with metals and non-metals, as well as other techniques, have been found to narrow the bandgap of TiO2. This review focuses on the intrinsic vacancy-modulated bandgap narrowing in TiO2 and covers recent advancements in this field.

Photocatalytic activity of kaolin-titania composites to degrade methylene blue under UV light irradiation; kinetics, mechanism and thermodynamics

Muhamad Rafiq Kamaluddin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the photocatalytic activity of kaolin-anatase titania nanoparticles (KT) composites in degrading methylene blue under UV light, finding that the incorporation of TiO2 NPs enhances the activity. The degradation efficiency increases with TiO2 NPs loading, and optimizing the dosage and concentration ratio can improve photocatalytic activity. The results suggest that despite kaolin's low initial photocatalytic activity, it can be enhanced when formed into KT composites, which remain economically viable.

Process optimization of Auramine O adsorption by surfactant-modified activated carbon using Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology

Rahmat Ali et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the sorption capacity of SDS-modified activated carbon for the highly toxic dye AO. Optimum conditions for maximum adsorption capacity were identified, and both pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model described the adsorption process well. Results also indicated that both film diffusion and intra-particle diffusion occur during the interaction between AO and PA-AC-SDS. In addition, thermodynamic investigations showed the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process, making PA-AC-SDS an efficient technology for removing AO from textile industries effluents.
