Insights into the cyclic CO2 capture and catalytic methanation over highly performing Li-Ru/Al2O3 dual function materials

Stefano Cimino et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the synergistic and mechanistic aspects between CO2 capture and methanation reactions over lithium-ruthenium/Al2O3 dual function materials, revealing that the favorable synergism at the nanoscale between the Li-aluminate sorbent phase and the catalytic Ru sites can enhance the intrinsic activity of the materials.

Ru/Ce/Ni Metal Foams as Structured Catalysts for the Methanation of CO2

Stefano Cimino et al.

Summary: The development of highly conductive structured catalysts with enhanced mass- and heat-transfer features is needed for the intensification of strongly exothermic catalytic hydrogenation of CO2. Thin porous CeO2 layers deposited on Ni foams produced active catalytic sites for the hydrogenation of CO2, and the dispersion of Ru within the pores of the CeO2 layer further boosted the methanation activity.

SiO2/SiC supports with tailored thermal conductivity to reveal the effect of surface temperature on Ru-catalyzed CO2 methanation

Elspeth M. Petersen et al.

Summary: The study focused on managing the heat effects of the CO2 methanation reaction by tailoring the thermal conductivity of silica-coated silicon carbide. Results showed that decreasing the thermal conductivity while retaining other properties constant can lead to a drop in methane selectivity for Ru-based catalysts. Stability tests demonstrated that Ru supported on SiO2/SiC calcined for 1 hour retained 88% selectivity for 100 hours at a space velocity of 33000 h(-1).
