Mode choice, substitution patterns and environmental impacts of shared and personal micro-mobility

Daniel J. Reck et al.

Summary: The study found that trip distance, precipitation, and access distance are fundamental factors in micro-mobility mode choice. Additionally, personal e-scooters and e-bikes emit less CO2 than the transport modes they replace, while shared e-scooters and e-bikes emit more CO2 than the transport modes they replace.

Dynamic pricing of free-floating carsharing networks with sensitivity to travellers' attitudes towards risk

Chenyang Wu et al.

Summary: Free-floating carsharing systems are characterized by volatile fleet distribution and diverse customer preferences, creating opportunities for operators to utilize dynamic pricing for fleet allocation. This study proposes a choice-based framework for modeling supply/demand interaction in a dynamically priced FFCS market, considering user risk preferences and behavioral decision-making models. The framework can evaluate operator strategies beyond spot market pricing, including advance reservation options, to set optimal pricing strategies regardless of user risk preferences.

Explaining shared micromobility usage, competition and mode choice by modelling empirical data from Zurich, Switzerland

Daniel J. Reck et al.

Summary: Competition and mode choice of shared micromobility services are influenced by distance and time, with docked modes being favored for commuting. There is a fundamental relationship between fleet density and usage, with decreasing marginal utility gains as fleet densities increase. City authorities and service providers can leverage this relationship to optimize micromobility services.

Smartphone use and travel companions' relationship

Wee Kheng Tan et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of smartphone use at tourist destinations on travel companions' relationships and trip satisfaction. The findings suggest that smartphone use to kill time and reduce boredom does not have a negative effect on relationship satisfaction or overall trip satisfaction, but rather depends on who the tourists are traveling with.
