Spatial modeling of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis with regard to potential environmental factors using ANFIS and PCA-ANFIS methods

Elnaz Babaie et al.

Summary: This study compares the application of two adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and principal component analysis (PCA)-ANFIS techniques for spatial modeling and forecasting of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL) cases in rural regions of Golestan province, Iran. The findings demonstrate that the PCA-ANFIS model performs better in predicting the ZCL cases compared to the ANFIS model, with higher values of R-2, lower values of MAE and RMSE. The study highlights the importance of machine learning techniques in medical geography studies and their potential in identifying high-risk areas and significant factors for disease prediction.

Proportion of asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jingjing He et al.

Summary: Approximately 15.6% of confirmed COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic. Nearly half of the patients with no symptoms at detection time will develop symptoms later. Children are likely to have a higher proportion of asymptomatic infection than adults. Asymptomatic COVID-19 patients could have abnormal laboratory and radiational manifestations, which can be used as screening strategies to identify asymptomatic infection.

Spatial clustering and contextual factors associated with hospitalisation and deaths due to COVID-19 in Sweden: a geospatial nationwide ecological study

Osvaldo Fonseca-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study identified high-risk spatial clusters for hospitalisations and deaths due to COVID-19 in Sweden from February 2020 to October 2020. The hospitalisations and deaths were associated with population density, the proportion of immigrants and the proportion of people aged 65+ years.

Spatiotemporal Variability of Zoonotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Based on Sociodemographic Heterogeneity. The Case of Northeastern Iran, 2011-2016

Mohammad Tabasi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL) in Iran, specifically in the Golestan villages from 2011-2016. Spatial analysis revealed significant clusters in the north and northeast regions, with outbreaks mainly occurring from late summer to December. Children in rural areas were more prone to infection, while housekeepers, females, and patients aged 21-30 and 41-50 years were identified as high-risk groups in the southern regions.

Summary: Research found that immigrants in Norway had higher notification rates, hospitalization rates, and mortality rates for COVID-19 compared to non-immigrants, with significant differences observed among different immigrant groups. Somali-, Pakistani- and Iraqi-born immigrants had particularly high rates.

Elnaz Babaie et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the spatial distribution patterns of human brucellosis in rural districts of Mazandaran province, Iran, identify parameters affecting disease spread, and model and predict the distribution of cases. Results showed positive relationships between vegetation, population density, and livestock numbers with the incidence of HB. The study utilized statistical methods and GIS-based modeling to investigate and predict the spread of HB.
