HTDMA-modified bentonite clay for effective removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution

Van-Phuc Dinh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of Pb(II) by HDTMA-modified bentonite clay, showing an enhanced adsorption capacity compared to unmodified clay. Equilibrium was reached at pH 5.0 after 120 minutes, with adsorption following Sips isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics models. Maximum monolayer adsorption capacity calculated from Langmuir model was significantly higher for modified clay, implying a mechanism involving inner-sphere complexes and interlayer spaces for Pb(II) uptake.

Investigation of the adsorption performance of cationic and anionic dyes using hydrochared waste human hair

Zelal Isik et al.

Summary: This study converted waste human hair into hydrochar using subcritical water medium for the first time and employed the produced hydrochar as an adsorbent for removing Reactive Red 180 (RR180) and Basic Red 18 (BR18) from aqueous solutions. The optimization process determined the best conditions for maximum removal of RR180 and BR18, and Langmuir and Freundlich models were used to study the adsorption isotherms. The kinetic studies showed that the adsorptions of RR180 and BR18 followed different models, and the thermodynamic results confirmed the spontaneous nature of the adsorption process.

Comparison of Cr(VI) adsorption and photocatalytic reduction efficiency using leonardite powder

Hudaverdi Arslan et al.

Summary: In this study, the removal of Cr(VI) from the aquatic environment using leonardite as an adsorbent and photocatalyst was investigated. The effects of solution pH, particle size, adsorbent dose, and initial concentration on the removal efficiency were studied. The results showed that leonardite achieved complete removal of Cr(VI) in both adsorption and photocatalytic processes, and the reuse of leonardite powder was also explored.

Mg-Al Layered Double Hydroxide Doped Activated Carbon Composites for Phosphate Removal from Synthetic Water: Adsorption and Thermodynamics Studies

Abdelrahman K. A. Khalil et al.

Summary: Increased phosphate concentration in water bodies leads to eutrophication, and its removal is necessary for sustainable wastewater purification. In this study, AC/MgAl LDH composites were prepared with different (Mg + Al) total metal loadings, and the effect of metal loading on phosphate removal was investigated. The results showed that increasing the (Mg + Al) metal loading significantly improved the phosphate adsorption capacity. The AC/MgAl LDH composites provide an effective strategy for phosphate removal from aqueous solutions.

Influence of calcination atmosphere on Fe doped activated carbon for the application of lead removal from water

Anjaneyulu Chatla et al.

Summary: In this study, Fe doped GAC materials were prepared and characterized. The 5 wt% Fe-GAC impregnated in ethanol and calcined under nitrogen showed the highest removal efficiency for Pb2+ ions. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second order model and the isotherm results were well correlated with Redlich-Peterson, Sips and Langmuir models. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 124.3 mg/g for Pb2+ ions at pH 4.7 and room temperature. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous, involving both chemical and physical mechanisms.

Adsorption of lead ions from an aqueous solution onto NaOH-modified rice husk

Ismail W. Almanassra et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption of toxic lead ions from aqueous solution using NaOH-modified rice husk (MRH). The results showed that factors such as contact time, mass of MRH, and pH significantly influenced the adsorption of lead ions. The adsorption process followed Langmuir isotherm and was found to be exothermic and spontaneous. Therefore, MRH can be considered as an excellent adsorbent for the removal of lead ions from aqueous solutions.
