Sustainable Development Ensued by Social Capital Impacts on Food Insecurity: The Case of Kibera, Nairobi

Summary: This study explores the links between different types of social capital (bonding, bridging, linking) and food security in Kibera, Nairobi. The results show that bonding social capital has a positive impact on food security, while bridging social capital has a negative impact. One indicator of linking social capital has a positive impact on food security, but other indicators do not show any relationship.

Clean, low-carbon but corrupt? Examining corruption risks and solutions for the renewable energy sector in Mexico, Malaysia, Kenya and South Africa

Summary: The decarbonized global energy sector requires significant investments, leading to corruption risks due to its size. While existing literature on energy and corruption mostly focuses on fossil fuels, evidence shows that corruption risks also exist in renewable energy markets. This paper explores new private actors in selected renewable electricity markets in various countries, identifies eight distinct corruption risks, and offers five recommendations and solutions to address corruption.

Socio-Economic Drivers of Fish Species Consumption Preferences in Kenya's Urban Informal Food System

Summary: A study on fish consumption preferences in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya found that Lake Victoria sardine was the most preferred fish species, followed by Nile tilapia and Nile perch. Household size and income level influenced preferences for different fish species, with larger households preferring sardines and higher-income households preferring Nile tilapia and Nile perch. Rising fish prices increased preference for Nile tilapia, while lower prices increased preference for Lake Victoria sardine.
