Charging station optimization for balanced electric car sharing

Antoine Deza et al.

Summary: This work focuses on finding optimal locations for charging stations in one-way electric car sharing programs to minimize the need for vehicle relocation. A mixed-integer linear programming formulation is used, and a column generation approach is employed for optimal solution. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly increases the balanced flow in the network and outperforms the traditional approach in computation time.

Vehicular Traffic in Urban Areas: Health Burden and Influence of Sustainable Urban Planning and Mobility

Cristina Reche et al.

Summary: This study aims to understand the impact of urban environment on mobility-related air pollution and evaluate the health benefits of traffic interventions. Comparing indicators in 12 European cities, it was found that improving accessibility and green areas is crucial for improving air quality and promoting active transport. The health impact assessment revealed that current traffic emission reduction strategies have limited effects on reducing premature mortality, indicating the need for more ambitious pollution control measures.

Smart Charging of Electric Vehicles Considering SOC-Dependent Maximum Charging Powers

Benjamin Schaden et al.

Summary: The aim of this work is to schedule the charging of electric vehicles at a single charging station, considering the temporal availability of each EV and the maximum power at the station, in order to minimize total charging costs with respect to time-dependent electricity costs. One main challenge is that the maximum charging power of a vehicle depends on the current state of charge, especially in the case of fast charging. The study proposes two methods for solving the scheduling problem, and evaluates their performance on benchmark instances and under a model-based predictive control strategy.

Combined vehicle to building (V2B) and vehicle to home (V2H) strategy to increase electric vehicle market share

David Borge-Diez et al.

Summary: The research presents a novel combined use of V2H and V2B, where energy is charged at night in workers' homes and delivered to buildings during the day, reducing peak demand, decreasing carbon intensity, and saving energy costs. This innovative approach greatly contributes to improving energy efficiency, reducing peak demand in buildings, and increasing the penetration of electric vehicles in commuting.

Car Sharing as a Strategy to Address GHG Emissions in the Transport System: Evaluation of Effects of Car Sharing in Amsterdam

Ana Maria Arbelaez Velez et al.

Summary: This study found that the impact of car sharing on transport-related emissions varies among individuals, with emissions increasing for those without private cars and decreasing for previous car owners. At the city level, greenhouse gas emissions savings can be achieved through the use of more efficient vehicles in sharing systems and the implementation of greener mobility policies. These findings support the development of transport policies that discourage car ownership and promote shared mobility solutions within city transport systems.
