Electrochemical CO2 reduction to ethylene by ultrathin CuO nanoplate arrays

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile and scalable anodic corrosion method was used to synthesize oxygen-rich CuO nanoplate arrays. The self-evolution process led to the formation of stable Cu/Cu2O heterogeneous interfaces, which significantly improved the C2H4 production and stability in CO2 electroreduction.

Inversely Tuning the CO2 Electroreduction and Hydrogen Evolution Activity on Metal Oxide via Heteroatom Doping

Jiajun Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that tuning the electronic states of ZnO by replacing the Zn site with heteroatoms can significantly modulate the activities of CO2RR and HER inversely, leading to a dramatic tuning of the practical CO2RR performance. The correlation between electronic states, reaction free energies, and practical activity is also highlighted, providing insights for engineering efficient CO2RR electrocatalysts through tunable composition and electronic structures.

Disordered TiOx-SiOx Nanocatalysts Using Bioinspired Synthetic Routes

Junjie Jiang et al.

Summary: Metal oxide nanomaterials synthesized using a biomineralization-inspired method have been shown to have increased surface area and controllable catalytic properties. The use of protamine as a protein template resulted in largely disordered materials with changes in atomic structure dependent on synthetic conditions. Removal of protamine and subsequent hydrogenation induced defects in the materials while retaining their disordered nature, showing potential for controlling catalytic properties using benign synthetic strategies.

Regulating the oxidation state of nanomaterials for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction

Zhi-Zheng Wu et al.

Summary: Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) converts CO2 into value-added chemicals and fuels, addressing renewable energy shortage and environmental pollution. Regulating the oxidation state of catalysts has been identified as an effective method for designing high-performing CO2RR catalysts that can influence catalyst activity and selectivity.
