Ethanol-derived white emissive carbon dots: the formation process investigation and multi-color/white LEDs preparation

Boyang Wang et al.

Summary: Carbon dots (CDs) have been synthesized using ethanol as a carbon source, composed of blue-, cyan-, and yellow-emitting CDs which fluoresce at corresponding wavelengths. The red-shift in emission peaks is attributed to increased carbonization in polymer structure, leading to different surface states. Theoretically verified results have successfully been used in developing multi-color and white light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Pressure-induced photoluminescence enhancement and ambient retention in confined carbon dots

Qing Lou et al.

Summary: Carbon dots confined within sodium hydroxide exhibit enhanced photoluminescence under high pressure, which can be retained after pressure release. The enhancement in emission is mainly attributed to the spatial separation and nonradiative pathway restriction caused by the sodium hydroxide matrix.

Self-exothermic reaction driven large-scale synthesis of phosphorescent carbon nanodots

Shi-Yu Song et al.

Summary: A large-scale synthesis method for phosphorescent carbon nanodots (CNDs) has been demonstrated via precursors' self-exothermic reaction at room temperature, showing comparable fluorescence and phosphorescence properties with other synthesis methods. The exotic atom doped sp(2) hybridized carbon core serves as an emissive center to facilitate the intersystem crossing, enabling tunable phosphorescence lifetimes from 193 ms to 1.13 s at different temperatures. This method opens up a new avenue for room temperature fabrication of phosphorescent CNDs.
