Competition of chiral soliton lattice and Abrikosov vortex lattice in QCD with isospin chemical potential

Martin Spillum Gronli et al.

Summary: We investigate the thermodynamics of two-flavor quark matter in the presence of nonzero isospin chemical potential and an external magnetic field. We map the phase diagram of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) as a function of isospin chemical potential and magnetic field, focusing on the competition between the chiral soliton lattice (CSL) and the Abrikosov vortex lattice. Our main finding is that the Abrikosov vortex lattice phase persists in the phase diagram, separating the uniform charged pion Bose-Einstein condensate phase from the CSL phase. The precise layout of the phase diagram depends sensitively on the choice of the vacuum pion mass.

Skyrmions in a magnetic field and π0 domain wall formation in dense nuclear matter

Shi Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate magnetic effects in the skyrmion system to understand the properties of dense nuclear matter. We discover a deformed pi(0) dipole structure of a baryon induced by a magnetic field. By extending our scope to stacked Skyrme crystal layers, we examine different phases of magnetized nuclear matter and identify a phase transition from crystalline state to ar pi(0) domain wall, indicating a topological transformation from pi(3)(S-3) to pi(1)(S-1). We establish a phase diagram, which can also be explored in similar systems with two-component Bose-Einstein condensates.

Strange quark mass turns magnetic domain walls into multi-winding flux tubes

Geraint W. Evans et al.

Summary: Research has shown that when the strange quark mass increases, magnetic domain walls evolve into multi-winding flux tubes with ring-like magnetic field structures. These flux tubes may appear in the QCD phase diagram under certain conditions.

Summary: The study shows that thermal fluctuations stabilize the anomaly-induced chiral soliton lattice (CSL) phase, allowing the CSL state to potentially survive up to temperatures where chiral symmetry is restored.

Crystals of gauged solitons, force-free plasma, and resurgence

Gonzalo Barriga et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the (3 + 1)-dimensional gauged nonlinear sigma model minimally coupled to a U(1) gauge field has analytic solutions representing gauged solitons with crystalline structures generating persistent currents at finite baryon density, where the electromagnetic field forms a force-free plasma. Despite the nonintegrable nature of the theory, perturbations of these gauged solitons allow the identification of a proper resurgent parameter, with some perturbations related to the Lame operator. The band energy spectrum for different theory parameters show modulated band gaps, with electromagnetic perturbations interacting with the soliton background through an effective two-dimensional periodic potential. Comparisons are made with crystal solutions of the (1 + 1)-dimensional Gross-Neveu model.

Pion crystals hosting topologically stable baryons

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: In this study, we constructed analytical (3 + 1)-dimensional inhomogeneous and topologically nontrivial pion systems using chiral perturbation theory. The inhomogeneous configurations of the pion fields are characterized by a nonvanishing topological charge that corresponds to baryons surrounded by a cloud of pions. The system supports a topologically protected persistent superflow, where the superflow becomes an electromagnetic supercurrent when the electromagnetic field is present.
