Brown-York charges at null boundaries

Venkatesa Chandrasekaran et al.

Summary: The Brown-York stress tensor is generalized to null hypersurfaces in this paper. The formula for the mixed-index tensor is independent of the choice of auxiliary null vector and satisfies a conservation equation. The application of the null Brown-York stress tensor to symmetries is discussed.

Carroll Symmetry, Dark Energy and Inflation

Jan de Boer et al.

Summary: Carroll symmetry, arising from the limit of vanishing speed of light, is studied and constraints on the energy-momentum tensor are determined. The findings suggest that Carroll symmetry may be relevant for dark energy and inflation.

Fluctuating relativistic dissipative hydrodynamics as a gauge theory

Summary: Different formulations of hydrodynamics are related to uncertainties in the definitions of local thermodynamic and hydrodynamic variables. This ambiguity can be resolved by viewing different formulations of hydrodynamics as particular gauge choices.

Infinite-Dimensional Algebras as Extensions of Kinematic Algebras

Joaquim Gomis et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the kinematic algebras realized on geometric spaces and their constraints on physical models. The authors develop a framework that systematically captures the corrections to the strict non-relativistic limit and introduce new infinite-dimensional algebras. The realization of these algebras using particle models highlights a new type of duality between the Galilei and Carroll limits.

Carroll contractions of Lorentz-invariant theories

Marc Henneaux et al.

Summary: This study explores Carroll-invariant limits of Lorentz-invariant field theories, showing the existence of electric and magnetic limits that can be obtained through similar ultrarelativistic contraction procedures. The advantage of this method is providing an explicit action principle for electrically-contracted or magnetically-contracted dynamics. The Hamiltonian action principle is shown to be Carroll invariant, and explicit Carroll-invariant action principles are constructed for each contraction, with a more subtle description for the magnetic contraction involving an additional pure gauge field.

Constructing Carrollian CFTs

Nishant Gupta et al.

Summary: We construct classical theories for scalar fields in arbitrary Carroll spacetimes that are invariant under Carrollian diffeomorphisms and Weyl transformations. When the local symmetries are gauge fixed these theories become Carrollian conformal field theories. We show that generically there are at least two types of such theories emerging in three (and higher) dimensions.

Summary: The study focuses on moving Lifshitz branes in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity, obtaining the non-relativistic stress tensor complex of the dual field theory through a suitable holographic renormalization procedure, illustrating a concrete holographic realization of a Lifshitz perfect fluid with a generic dynamical critical exponent.

Effective field theory for hydrodynamics without boosts

Jacome Armas et al.

Summary: The research presents the formulation of the Schwinger-Keldysh effective field theory of hydrodynamics without boost symmetry and explores various transport coefficients and fluctuation modes. The new hydrodynamic framework provides a unified stable approach for studying different types of fluids.
