Convexity, large charge and the large-N phase diagram of the φ4 theory

Rafael Moser et al.

Summary: In this note, we discuss the phase space of the O(2N) vector model with a quadratic and a quartic interaction. By using large charge methods, we write the large-N effective potential in dimensions 2 < D < 4 and 4 < D < 6. Based on a simple discussion of the convexity properties of the grand potential, we find that the behavior of the model is very different in the two regimes. In the regime 2 < D < 4, the theory is well-behaved, while in the regime 4 < D < 6, the model leads to a complex CFT in the UV, consistent with previous results. Additionally, we discover a new metastable massive phase in the high-energy regime of the theory on the cylinder.

Corrections to extremal black holes from Iyer-Wald formalism

Lars Aalsma

Summary: This article presents a general method for calculating corrections to the extremality bound and entropy of Kerr-Newman black holes due to an arbitrary perturbation using the Iyer-Wald formalism. The study clarifies the relationship between extremality corrections and energy conditions, showing that violating the dominant energy condition can decrease the mass of an extremal black hole.

More on the weak gravity conjecture via convexity of charged operators

Oleg Antipin et al.

Summary: In this study, the Weak Gravity Conjecture is re-formulated in terms of a particle with non-negative self-binding energy, and the convex charge conjecture is refined and further tested via semiclassical computations for fixed charge sectors of different theories. The leading contribution in the semiclassical computations is found to be sufficient to test convexity, and intriguing cases where models transition from real to complex conformal dimensions are explored. It is discovered that whenever a complex conformal dimension appears, the real part satisfies the convexity property.

Convexity of charged operators in CFTs and the weak gravity conjecture

Ofer Aharony et al.

Summary: The study proposes a new approach to the weak gravity conjecture and attempts to compare it with conformal field theory. They found that in all tested examples, the conjecture seems to hold true, but they have not yet been able to understand why this is the case from the perspective of conformal field theory.
