Genome-wide association study and marker development for bacterial wilt resistance in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

Thim Thi Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study identified eight quantitative trait loci (QTL) for bacterial wilt resistance in tomato through a genome-wide association study, with QTL on chromosomes 4 and 12 explaining a high percentage of the total phenotypic variation. Additionally, marker-assisted selection using SNP markers for these major QTL was effective in identifying resistant tomatoes.

Absence of CG methylation alters the long noncoding transcriptome landscape in multiple species

Ting Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found significant activation of lincRNAs in the absence of CG DNA methylation rather than non-CG. This research provides us with a working model of the contribution of DNA methylation to regulation of the dynamic activity of lincRNA transcription.

ARGONAUTE 2 increases rice susceptibility to rice black-streaked dwarf virus infection by epigenetically regulating HEXOKINASE 1 expression

Zhaoyun Wang et al.

Summary: OsAGO2 plays a crucial role in rice antiviral defense, with overexpression enhancing susceptibility and mutants exhibiting resistance to RBSDV infection. The study shows that OsAGO2 regulates rice susceptibility to fijivirus infection by suppressing OsHXK1 expression and controlling ROS accumulation. This discovery could impact future rice breeding programs for virus resistance.

Metabolomic Response of Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) against Bacterial Wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum) Using 1H-NMR Spectroscopy

Rudi Hari Murti et al.

Summary: Ralstonia solanacearum is the pathogen responsible for wilting, yield losses, and death in tomato plants. Using resistant cultivars has been proven as the most appropriate solution to control this pathogen. Further study of host-plant resistance mechanisms in tomatoes is urgently needed, and H-1-NMR spectroscopy combined with multivariate data analysis has been used to identify the biochemical compounds that play a crucial role in the defense mechanisms of tomato against bacterial wilt.
