Expression and roles of GRAS gene family in plant growth, signal transduction, biotic and abiotic stress resistance and symbiosis formation-a review

Y. Khan et al.

Summary: The GRAS gene family, derived from GAI, RGA, and SCR, is crucial in plant growth and development regulation and response to environmental stresses. By improving physiological processes, such as hormone regulation and signaling pathways, GRAS enhances plant growth and development, ultimately enabling plants to function more efficiently. Moreover, GRAS plays a significant role in enhancing crop productivity through genetic modification and response to abiotic stresses.

Genome-wide comparison of the GRAS protein family in eight Rosaceae species and GRAS gene expression analysis in Chinese white pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehder)

Wenjing Chang et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively identified and compared GRAS genes in the Rosaceae family, revealing that whole-genome duplication and dispersed duplication events were major mechanisms promoting the expansion of the GRAS protein family. GRAS genes were mainly under purifying selection during evolution, indicating strong functional restriction. In pear development, GRAS genes play significant roles and may contribute to anthocyanin biosynthesis.

Integrative Analysis of the GRAS Genes From Chinese White Pear (Pyrus bretschneideri): A Critical Role in Leaf Regeneration

Xinya Wang et al.

Summary: GRAS transcription factors (TFs) in Chinese white pear were systematically characterized in this study. Phylogenetic and structural analysis revealed the features of the PbGRAS family. Synteny analysis showed the conservation of duplicated regions, with dispersed duplication events playing a crucial role in the expansion of the GRAS gene family. Cis-acting elements associated with hormone and environmental stress responses were found in the promoter regions of PbGRAS genes. PbGRAS89 and PbGRAS99 played important roles in leaf development.

Genome-Wide Identification, Transcript Profiling and Bioinformatic Analyses of GRAS Transcription Factor Genes in Rice

Mouboni Dutta et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the expression patterns of rice GRAS TF genes under abiotic and biotic stress conditions, identifying genes that were induced immediately after stress onset, especially in the roots of ABA-treated plants. OsGRAS39 was found to be highly expressed under sheath blight infection and abiotic stress treatments, with OsGRAS8, OsSHR1 and OsSLR1 also showing responsiveness. The research suggests that GRAS genes are potential candidate genes for enhancing stress tolerance in rice and other crop plants.
