Overexpression of purple acid phosphatase GmPAP2.1 confers resistance to Soybean mosaic virus in a susceptible soybean cultivar

Kristin Widyasari et al.

Summary: The purple acid phosphatase GmPAP2.1 from soybean cultivar L29 acts as a resistance factor against specific strains of Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) by up-regulating the ICS1 gene to activate the salicylic acid (SA) pathway for defense response. Overexpression of GmPAP2.1 from L29 confers SMV resistance to susceptible cultivar Lee 74 via SA pathway accumulation.

Double-stranded RNA confers resistance to pepper mottle virus in Nicotiana benthamiana

Jeongyeon Yoon et al.

Summary: The study utilized RNAi technique to design dsRNA for protecting plants from viral infection, showing that optimizing dsRNA and virus injection time can enhance the protection efficiency. Different dsRNAs targeting various gene regions have varying effects on virus survival, with the highest inhibitory effect observed on the middle part of the NIb and HC-Pro genes. The results suggest that dsRNA tool can serve as a plant vaccine platform for crop protection.
