Genome-Wide Characterization of Serine/Arginine-Rich Gene Family and Its Genetic Effects on Agronomic Traits of Brassica napus

Meili Xie et al.

Summary: Serine/arginine-rich (SR) proteins are essential for RNA splicing and have important roles in development and abiotic stress responses in Brassica napus. This study identified and classified 59 SR genes into seven subfamilies and found that they showed conserved structures and motifs but varied expression patterns in different tissues and under abiotic stress. Alternative splicing of SR genes was widespread in B. napus, and protein-protein interaction analysis revealed their involvement in mRNA regulation. Additionally, association mapping analysis indicated that some SR genes were candidate genes for regulating specific agronomic traits in B. napus.

Genome-Wide Association Analysis Combined With Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping and Dynamic Transcriptome Unveil the Genetic Control of Seed Oil Content in Brassica napus L.

Chuanji Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the genetic basis of seed oil content (SOC) in rapeseed was investigated using a natural population and recombinant inbred lines (RILs). A high-density linkage map was constructed and a major QTL for SOC was identified. RNA-seq analysis revealed the metabolic pathways and candidate genes that are associated with SOC.

Mutation of the PHYTOENE DESATURASE 3 gene causes yellowish-white petals in Brassica napus

Chuanji Zhao et al.

Summary: A yellowish-white flower mutant was obtained from oilseed rape through EMS treatment, and genetic analysis revealed that this trait was controlled by a single recessive gene. Through BSA-seq and KASP, the ywf locus on chromosome A08 was cloned, with further investigation showing a C-to-T substitution in the coding region leading to a premature translation termination in the ywf mutant.

Enhancing grain-yield-related traits by CRISPR-Cas9 promoter editing of maize CLE genes

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: By using CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, weak promoter alleles of CLE genes and a null allele of a partially redundant compensating CLE gene were engineered in maize to increase multiple maize grain-yield-related traits, demonstrating the potential of genomic editing in crop improvement.
