Transcriptomic analysis of OsRUS1 overexpression rice lines with rapid and dynamic leaf rolling morphology

Ning Yu et al.

Summary: This study used RNA-Seq approach to identify differentially expressed genes between OsRUS1-OX transgenic rice lines and wildtype with leaf rolling phenotype. Several candidate genes related to the leaf rolling phenotype were identified and their expression patterns were verified. These findings provide important insights into the molecular mechanism behind the leaf rolling phenotype of OsRUS1-OX.

The Iron Deficiency-Regulated Small Protein Effector FEP3/IRON MAN1 Modulates Interaction of BRUTUS-LIKE1 With bHLH Subgroup IVc and POPEYE Transcription Factors

Daniela M. Lichtblau et al.

Summary: Generating plants that are Fe-efficient, resilient to low Fe supply and Fe-biofortified is a challenging task in light of climate change and human population growth. Understanding the regulation of Fe acquisition and allocation in plants is crucial for such endeavors. This study identified a small effector protein, FEP3/IMA1, that binds and inhibits the BTSL1 complex with PYE and bHLH subgroup IVc proteins, facilitating enhanced Fe acquisition and allocation. These findings contribute to improving models of Fe regulation and identifying novel targets for breeding of Fe-efficient crops.

Iron uptake, signaling, and sensing in plants

Gang Liang

Summary: This article focuses on recent advances in elucidating the functions of Iron (Fe) signaling components. The paper discusses the Fe acquisition systems that control Fe uptake from soil, the major components that regulate Fe uptake systems, and the perception of Fe status in Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa. Further exploration of Fe signal transduction will pave the way for understanding the regulatory mechanisms underlying the maintenance of plant Fe homeostasis.

Interdependent iron and phosphorus availability controls photosynthesis through retrograde signaling

Hye-In Nam et al.

Summary: Iron deficiency-induced chlorosis in plants depends on phosphorus availability and is regulated by a ROS-mediated retrograde signaling pathway involving the PHT4;4 chloroplast ascorbate transporter and the bZIP58 nuclear transcription factor. These genes prevent downregulation of photosynthesis genes under iron-phosphorus deficiency, leading to a stay-green phenotype. Chloroplastic ascorbate transport modulates ROS homeostasis to adapt photosynthesis to nutrient availability.

Long Noncoding RNAs in Plants

Andrzej T. Wierzbicki et al.

Summary: Plants have a diverse range of transcription machineries, with four dedicated RNA polymerases involved in producing long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that play various regulatory roles in gene expression and response to environmental stimuli. These lncRNAs can impact gene expression by controlling chromatin accessibility, transcription, splicing, and translation.

IRON MAN interacts with BRUTUS to maintain iron homeostasis in Arabidopsis

Yang Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals that small peptides known as IRON MAN (IMA) interact with BRUTUS (BTS) to prevent the degradation of positive regulators bHLH105 and bHLH115, thereby activating the iron deficiency response.

From Dark Matter to Star: Insight Into the Regulation Mechanisms of Plant Functional Long Non-Coding RNAs

Qingshuai Chen et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play vital roles in various biological functions in plant growth and development, interacting with other molecules through roles such as sequestering RNA or DNA, recruiting or hijacking transcription factors, and binding with chromatin modification complexes. So far, 73 lncRNA-molecule interaction pairs have been validated in 16 plant species, indicating the commonality of these regulatory roles in the plant kingdom.

Impact of the SnRK1 protein kinase on sucrose homeostasis and the transcriptome during the diel cycle

Bruno Peixoto et al.

Summary: Under favorable growth conditions, SnRK1 plays a role in sucrose homeostasis and transcriptome remodeling in autotrophic tissues, and its activity is influenced by diel fluctuations in trehalose 6-phosphate (Tre6P) levels. Daily changes in Tre6P levels impact the activity of the SnRK1 protein kinase, contributing to the maintenance of sucrose homeostasis and diel patterns of gene expression.
