Antimicrobial resistance profiles and associated factors of Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas aeruginosa nosocomial infection among patients admitted at Dessie comprehensive specialized Hospital, North-East Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study

Habtamu Mekonnen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antimicrobial resistance profiles and associated factors of Acinetobacter spp and P. aeruginosa nosocomial infections among hospitalized patients. It was found that patients admitted in surgical, pediatric, intensive care, and orthopedic wards were at higher risk for developing NIs. A high prevalence of MDR Acinetobacter spp and P. aeruginosa isolates was observed, with certain antibiotics showing promising activity against these strains.

Multidrug resistance pattern of Acinetobacter species isolated from clinical specimens referred to the Ethiopian Public Health Institute: 2014 to 2018 trend anaylsis

Zeleke Ayenew et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the five-year trend of antimicrobial resistance in Acinetobacter species, revealing an increasing rate of multidrug resistance and resistance to high potency antimicrobial agents, posing a therapeutic challenge in hospitals and healthcare settings. Continuous surveillance and appropriate infection prevention and control strategies need to be strengthened to prevent the spread of multidrug-resistant pathogens in healthcare facilities.

Detection of extended spectrum beta-lactamase genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from patients in rural Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Mojisola C. Hosu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated antimicrobial resistance patterns of P. aeruginosa, identifying a high rate of multi-drug resistant strains carrying bla(TEM) and bla(SHV) genes in the Eastern Cape. Continuous monitoring and strict compliance with infection prevention and control practices are crucial in preventing the spread of MDR P. aeruginosa.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the spread and drug resistance of A. baumannii in low-income countries, highlighting the lack of literature research, which may be mainly due to the lack of effective monitoring systems and financial resources.
