Unravelling the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in mitigating the oxidative burst of plants under drought stress

Y-N Zou et al.

Summary: Continuous climate changes have made soil drought stress the main limiting factor for crop growth in arid and semi-arid regions. Plant-associated microbes like arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can regulate physiological and molecular responses to tolerate drought stress by enhancing antioxidant defence systems, which helps in coping with drought-induced oxidative damage.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis: plant growth improvement and induction of resistance under stressful conditions

Debasis Mitra et al.

Summary: The impact of stress on crop productivity and the ecosystem is exacerbated by climate changes and farming mispractices. Environmental control techniques like the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are necessary to enhance crop productivity; plants can tolerate various difficulties through AMF inoculation. Plants have multiple mechanisms to cope with environmental changes, with antioxidant ability as the main mechanism supported by accumulation of osmolytes and selective ion absorption.

Genome-wide identification of cassava MeRboh genes and functional analysis in Arabidopsis

Siyuan Huang et al.

Summary: The study identified eight MeRboh genes in cassava and showed the conservation of Rboh gene families in cassava, Arabidopsis, and rice through comparisons of gene structure, protein motifs, and a phylogenetic tree. Transcript levels of most MeRboh genes increased following treatment with a pathogen and phytohormones, indicating their roles in stress response. Analysis of cis-acting elements suggested that MeRboh genes could respond to various stresses, while prediction of miRNA targets and post-translation modification sites indicated possible regulation mechanisms. The study also demonstrated the involvement of MeRbohB and MeRbohF in the plant immune response and disease resistance, providing insights into molecular mechanisms.
