Combination of plant-growth-promoting and fluoranthene-degrading microbes enhances phytoremediation efficiency in the ryegrass rhizosphere

Weiming Li et al.

Summary: Plant- and/or microbe-based systems offer an efficient and sustainable approach for removing contaminants from soil. The combination of IAA-producing and Flu-degrading microbes significantly enhanced plant growth, facilitated Flu removal, and altered soil microbial functional structure. This study highlights the potential of utilizing microbial-assisted phytoremediation for environmental remediation.

Bacillus subtilis HSY21 can reduce soybean root rot and inhibit the expression of genes related to the pathogenicity of Fusarium oxysporum

Songyang Han et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that B. subtilis HSY21 isolated from soybean rhizosphere soil effectively controlled Fusarium oxysporum, a major pathogen causing soybean root rot, by inhibiting its growth and expression of pathogenic genes. This strain showed a high inhibition rate against F. oxysporum and could be a promising candidate for the prevention and control of soybean root rot.

Structural and functional characterization of the bacterial biofilm activator RemA

Tamara Hoffmann et al.

Summary: Biofilm formation in Bacillus subtilis requires the expression of matrix production genes, which are upregulated by the transcriptional activator RemA. The study revealed that RemA forms octameric rings with the potential to form a 16-meric superstructure, and it can wrap DNA through a LytTR-related domain.

Tomato Endophytic Bacteria Composition and Mechanism of Suppressiveness of Wilt Disease (Fusarium oxysporum)

Zeyu Zhang et al.

Summary: The research revealed that the invasion of F. oxysporum had a significant impact on the endophytic microbiota communities, particularly showing a reduction in the abundance of Bacillus sp. which are crucial for suppressing F. oxysporum. This suggests that monitoring the dynamics of endophytic bacteria communities and pathogen densities could lead to more accurate disease diagnostics and efficient screening methods for plant pathogens.

Activity of Fengycin and Iturin A Isolated From Bacillus subtilis Z-14 on Gaeumannomyces graminis Var. tritici and Soil Microbial Diversity

Jiawen Xiao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that fengycin and iturin A purified from Bacillus subtilis Z-14 showed strong antifungal effects against Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (Ggt), the pathogen causing wheat take-all disease. In biocontrol tests, both fengycin and iturin A effectively controlled the disease, with fengycin treatment significantly affecting soil bacterial diversity after 7 days. Additionally, the two compounds led to changes in the relative abundance of other fungal genera in the soil.

Bacterial-Like Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetases Produce Cyclopeptides in the Zygomycetous Fungus Mortierella alpina

Jacob M. Wurlitzer et al.

Summary: This study reports the biosynthesis of cyclic pentapeptides in Mortierella alpina, highlighting early-diverging fungi as an underestimated resource of natural products. The enzymes involved in this biosynthesis are more closely related to bacterial NRPSs, suggesting a bacterial origin of these NRPS genes in Mortierella. This discovery establishes early-diverging fungi as prolific natural compound producers and sheds light on the origin of their biosynthetic capacity.
