CNGB1-related rod-cone dystrophy: A mutation review and update

Marco Nassisi et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive review and analysis of CNGB1 sequence variants, identifying 22 novel variants and expanding the spectrum to a total of 84 variants. According to the classification criteria, 59 variants were considered pathogenic or likely pathogenic, while 25 were variants of uncertain significance. Phenotypic data from 34 CNGB1-related RP cases showed a long-term retention of useful central vision despite the early onset of night blindness.

Impact of Photoreceptor Loss on Retinal Circuitry

Joo Yeun Lee et al.

Summary: Our sense of sight relies on photoreceptors, which can be disrupted by disease, injury, and aging. Understanding the conditions that influence the state of the remaining retina is crucial for maximizing receptivity to therapy. The retina's adaptational mechanisms may play a role in withstanding photoreceptor loss.
