Simulation of the cooking organic aerosol concentration variability in an urban area

Evangelia Siouti et al.

Summary: Cooking activities are a source of urban air pollution that is often overlooked. By simulating and analyzing cooking organic aerosol (COA) emissions in the Greek city of Patras, it was found that dinner and lunch times are peak periods for COA emissions, while the local production of secondary COA is slow.

Use of GNSS Tropospheric Delay Measurements for the Parameterization and Validation of WRF High-Resolution Re-Analysis over the Western Gulf of Corinth, Greece: The PaTrop Experiment

Nikolaos Roukounakis et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a high-resolution weather re-analysis model can accurately generate tropospheric delay maps and partially remove noise in surface deformation mapping. The model performs relatively well under different seasons and weather conditions, but tends to slightly underestimate the estimated tropospheric ZTD.

Tropospheric Correction of Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferograms Using a High-Resolution Weather Model Validated by GNSS Measurements

Nikolaos Roukounakis et al.

Summary: Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR) is a space geodetic technique used for mapping deformations of the Earth's surface, but it is limited by the troposphere effect. The use of Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models as a tropospheric correction method in InSAR can effectively address the issues faced with other correction techniques.

Forecasting Particulate Pollution in an Urban Area: From Copernicus to Sub-Km Scale

Areti Pappa et al.

Summary: Particulate air pollution worsens cardiovascular and lung diseases. Accurate local air quality forecasting is crucial for pollution control strategies. CAMS provides 4-day-ahead regional forecasts and open-access air quality predictions. The study evaluates CAMS PM forecasts against in-situ measurements in a Mediterranean city and compares AnEn and LSTM models in forecasting air pollution levels. AnEn outperforms LSTM and reduces CAMS RMSE by 50% for PM2.5 and 60% for PM10. Both models are reliable for air pollution forecasting and can be used in other regions with modifications.

Changes in PM2.5 concentrations and their sources in the US from 1990 to 2010

Ksakousti Skyllakou et al.

Summary: Significant reductions in emissions of SO2, NOx, VOCs, and primary PM occurred in the US from 1990 to 2010, leading to improved air quality and health outcomes. Reductions in sulfate and elemental carbon emissions have led to decreased PM2.5 concentrations, while biomass burning is identified as the main source of organic aerosols and on-road transport has seen a significant decrease in OA emissions.
