Assessment of the nocturnal boundary layer height based on long-term atmospheric radon measurements

Summary: The article presents the results of statistical analysis of meteorological and atmospheric radon concentration measurements carried out in Krakow from 2004 to 2013. The study estimated the height of the nocturnal boundary layer based on diurnal variability and compared it with ERA5 data. The average radon concentration in the air in Krakow during that period was (5.262 +/- 0.017) Bqm(-3). The study identified diurnal and seasonal variability of radon concentration and analyzed the correlation of meteorological parameters. The results showed statistically significant correlations for wind speed (r= -0.38, p < 0.001) and air humidity (r=0.33, p < 0.001). The study confirmed the possibility of determining the nocturnal boundary layer height based on radon measurements, but further refinement of the calculation model is needed.
