A comprehensive validation for GPM IMERG precipitation products to detect extremes and drought over mainland China

Linfei Yu et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive validation of IMERG GPM products in detecting extremes and drought over mainland China. The results show that IMERG performs well in detecting extreme precipitation and monitoring drought in eastern China, but has poor performance in monitoring drought in western China.

Evaluation and Correction of IMERG Late Run Precipitation Product in Rainstorm over the Southern Basin of China

Chen Yu et al.

Summary: Satellite precipitation products are important for global or regional precipitation monitoring, but there are uncertainties in their performance, especially in extreme precipitation analysis. This study used the IMERG LR product to evaluate rainstorms in southern China and applied three correction methods to improve precipitation performance. The study found that correction products generally performed slightly better than the original product, but there were still underestimations and uncertainties in the corrected precipitation, particularly in areas with higher observed precipitation.

Evaluation of GPM-IMERG and TRMM-3B42 precipitation products over Pakistan

Muhammad Arshad et al.

Summary: The study evaluated Global Precipitation Measurements and Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission precipitation products over Pakistan, finding that satellite precipitation products performed well in central and southern regions, but were influenced by topography and precipitation intensity. The products were able to capture extreme precipitation events, with the IMERG final run showing the best performance in terms of performance metrics.

¶Health-related vulnerability to climate extremes in homoclimatic zones of Amazonia and Northeast region of Brazil

Lara de Melo Barbosa Andrade et al.

Summary: Amazonia and the Northeast region of Brazil demonstrate the highest levels of climate vulnerability in the country, with extreme hot and humid conditions impacting the Amazonia and sharp climatic contrasts affecting the Northeast. Vulnerability is defined by exposure, susceptibility, and adaptive capacity, with the Northeast region showing more pronounced climatic differences and vulnerability to tropical diseases.

Evaluation of the Integrated Multi-SatellitE Retrievals for the Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) Product in the Sao Francisco Basin (Brazil)

Daniele Torres Rodrigues et al.

Summary: The Sao Francisco River basin in Brazil is of great economic, social, and cultural importance, with the IMERG product showing satisfactory performance in representing precipitation. However, there is an issue of underestimation of precipitation in the eastern portion of the basin.

Assessment of GPM IMERG satellite precipitation estimation and its dependence on microphysical rain regimes over the mountains of south-central Chile

Yazmina Rojas et al.

Summary: Satellite data is crucial for regions lacking ground-based precipitation observations, especially in complex terrains like Chile. This study evaluates the performance of satellite-based precipitation estimation in Chile and finds that IMERG underestimates precipitation, particularly in high-elevation areas and during warm rain periods. Understanding how IMERG performance varies with terrain and microphysical regimes may help improve satellite-based precipitation estimation.

Climate change and hydrological regime of the high-altitude Indus basin under extreme climate scenarios

Zakir Hussain Dahri et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant changes in climate and hydrological regimes in the Indus basin, with projections of substantial increases in temperature and uncertain future precipitation trends. Hydrological extremes are likely to intensify, necessitating critical modifications in water resources management strategies and action plans.

A Comprehensive Evaluation of Latest GPM IMERG V06 Early, Late and Final Precipitation Products across China

Linfei Yu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of IMERG version 06 precipitation products in China from 2008 to 2017, finding that the products can reproduce spatial patterns of precipitation well but show decreasing accuracy from southeast to northwest China. The final run shows improvement in precipitation estimation performance compared to early and late runs.
