Interannual variability of terpenoid emissions in an alpine city

Lisa Kaser et al.

Summary: Terpenoid emissions in urban areas are a combination of biogenic and anthropogenic sources. A study found that in an alpine city, biogenic sources dominate summertime terpenoid fluxes, with isoprene showing a significant difference between 2015 and 2018. Standardized emission potentials for monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes remained consistent, while observed isoprene fluxes were higher in 2018. This suggests a higher variability of isoprene fluxes compared to other terpenes.

Role of Heat Wave-Induced Biogenic VOC Enhancements in Persistent Ozone Episodes Formation in Pearl River Delta

Haolin Wang et al.

Summary: Regional ozone pollution is influenced by a combination of anthropogenic sources and biogenic volatile organic compounds emitted from vegetation. This study found that during a heat wave in the Pearl River Delta, BVOC contributed significantly to ground-level ozone formation, with intense photochemical reactions leading to severe ozone pollution. The results suggest the importance of considering BVOC emissions in urban greening strategies to mitigate ozone pollution.

Positive and negative influences of typhoons on tropospheric ozone over southern China

Zhixiong Chen et al.

Summary: Based on an ensemble of 17 typhoons that made landfall between 2014 and 2018, this study investigates the positive and negative influences of typhoons on tropospheric ozone over southern China. It is found that during the initial stages of typhoon development, surface ozone is enhanced when typhoons are farther away, but as they approach southern China, the influence switches to reducing ozone. Meteorological conditions such as temperature, winds, and convective activity play a significant role in the production and accumulation of surface ozone during typhoon events.
