One-Step Supramolecular Multifunctional Coating on Plant Virus Nanoparticles for Bioimaging and Therapeutic Applications

Zhuohong Wu et al.

Summary: Plant viral nanoparticles (plant VNPs) are biogenetic nanosystems with promising applications in drug delivery and imaging. Researchers have developed a versatile supramolecular coating strategy using metal-phenolic networks (MPNs) to add functionalities to plant viruses, such as photothermal transduction, photoacoustic imaging, and fluorescent labeling. This approach has significant implications for designing multifunctional and biocompatible plant VNPs.

Influence of tannin and iron ions on the water resistance of clay materials

Yi Du et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a simple and robust additive solution to improve the water-resistance of clay materials by revisiting a traditional recipe. The combination of oak tannin with iron chloride is shown to enhance the rheological behavior, compressive strength, and water resistance of clay materials through complexation reaction between iron ions and tannin, preventing water ingression.

Mechanisms for efficient clay dispersing effect with tannins and sodium hydroxide

Yi Du et al.

Summary: The study found that combining sodium hydroxide with tannin can significantly enhance the dispersing ability of tannin, thereby altering its deflocculation mechanism on kaolinite. This shift is attributed to two aspects: the transformation of tannin chemical structure and the modification of kaolinite by sodium hydroxide.
