Adsorption Equilibrium, Thermodynamic, and Kinetic Study of O2/N2/CO2 on Functionalized Granular Activated Carbon

Hossein Mashhadimoslem et al.

Summary: In this study, a volumetric system was used to evaluate the adsorption performance of carbon-based adsorbents for oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide gases. The effects of ZnCl2 addition and heat treatment temperature on the adsorptive capabilities were investigated. The results showed that the addition of ZnCl2 improved the adsorption capacity for oxygen. Additionally, the adsorption isotherm and kinetic models indicated that the optimal sample exhibited the highest adsorption capacity for oxygen compared to nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

A review on activated carbon modifications for the treatment of wastewater containing anionic dyes

Kshaf Azam et al.

Summary: Polluted water resources, especially those contaminated with industrial effluents' dyes, pose a severe threat to sustainable development. Adsorption, particularly using activated carbon (AC), is a promising method for wastewater treatment. The synthesis, activation, and modification of AC have been the focus of recent research. Various modified-AC synthesis methods have been investigated to enhance its capacity for removing different-natured dyes in wastewater. The surface chemistry, porosity, and enhanced surface area of AC are important characteristics. Understanding the AC modification techniques, factors affecting its properties, and the influence of modifying agents on its morphology and adsorptive properties is crucial for wastewater treatment.

Marzia Sultana et al.

Summary: Effective and low-cost removal of dye and heavy metals from wastewater is still a challenging task for researchers. Chemical modifications of activated carbon have been extensively studied for improved adsorption capacity, with acid, base, and impregnation being the most commonly used methods. Systematic documentation of these modifications is needed for enhancing the efficiency of dye and heavy metals removal. This review focuses on chemically modified activated carbon that has shown improved adsorption capacity for dye and heavy metals from aqueous solution.

Heterogeneous activation of persulfate by activated carbon supported iron for efficient amoxicillin degradation

Juanjuan Zhao et al.

Summary: Activated carbon supported iron (Fe-AC) was prepared as an efficient catalyst to activate persulfate (PS) for degrading amoxicillin (AMO). The degradation of AMO in Fe-AC/PS system followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with the apparent activation energy calculated to be 28.11 kJ.mol(-1) using the Arrhenius Equation. Both hydroxyl radical and sulfate radical were identified during AMO degradation, and the Fe-AC/PS system significantly reduced toxicity caused by degraded AMO solutions, providing important information for application.
