Standard single and basal crop coefficients for vegetable crops, an update of FAO56 crop water requirements approach

L. S. Pereira et al.

Summary: Since the publication of FAO56 guidelines in 1998, numerous research papers on crop water requirements of vegetables have been produced, with the K-c-ETo approach being the most widely-used method for determining crop evapotranspiration. There are various approaches to determine K-c, and different methods for partitioning ETc act. The updated standard K-c and K-cb values generally coincide with those in FAO56, providing evidence of their quality and reliability.

Estimation of evapotranspiration for paddy under alternate wetting and drying irrigation practice*

Shashank Shekhar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify a suitable approach for estimating crop evapotranspiration (ETC) for rice under an alternate wetting and drying (AWD) practice, and found that the K-C_Eqn and K-S_FAO methods were better estimates. Results showed that the K-C values for rice under AWD were similar to CON practice, while the K-S values varied significantly. Overall, AWD irrigation practice saved irrigation water with slight reductions in yield and ETC.

How does film mulching modify available energy, evapotranspiration, and crop coefficient during the seed-maize growing season in northwest China?

Yin Zhao et al.

Summary: Plastic film mulching significantly decreased daily net radiation and daily soil heat flux before the jointing stage, leading to a 19.0% reduction in daily net radiation - soil heat flux. The impact of film mulching on evapotranspiration weakened during the crop growth stage, resulting in a 6.2% reduction in total evapotranspiration in the entire seed-maize growing season compared with non-mulched treatment.

Evapotranspiration partitioning of greenhouse grown tomato using a modified Priestley-Taylor model

Xuewen Gong et al.

Summary: A modified Priestley-Taylor model was proposed to accurately estimate transpiration, evaporation, and total evapotranspiration of greenhouse-grown tomatoes, adjusting model parameters based on different combinations of leaf area index and air temperature for precise water and nutrient management. Results showed that the transpiration and evaporation of greenhouse-grown tomatoes were significantly influenced by leaf area index and soil water stress.

Genetic Engineering of Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.): Progress, Controversy and Potential

Iftekhar Alam et al.

Summary: Eggplant is a significant vegetable in Asia and the Mediterranean, but faces limitations in productivity due to pests and environmental stresses. Genetic engineering offers new traits to enhance eggplant, but further research is needed to maximize benefits.
