Site suitability analysis of indigenous rainwater harvesting systems in arid and data-poor environments: a case study of Sana'a Basin, Yemen

Musaed Aklan et al.

Summary: This study developed a multicriteria analysis framework to identify and rank suitable sites for indigenous rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems in data-poor areas. The study found that over 30% of the Sana'a Basin in Yemen is suitable for indigenous RWH systems. These findings are promising and can guide future water resource and land management programs.

Determining the suitability of rainwater harvesting for the achievement of sustainable development goals in Wadi Watir, Egypt using GIS techniques

Mostafa Ezzeldin et al.

Summary: Water scarcity is a major global challenge due to climate change and population growth, particularly in semi-arid and arid regions. This research focuses on Egypt, where water resources are limited, and aims to determine the optimal implementation of rainwater harvesting systems considering the area's characteristics. By combining various techniques, such as geographic information systems and hydrological modeling, the study identifies suitable sites for rainwater harvesting structures and develops a sustainable plan aligned with the sustainable development goals.
