Removal of Organic Compounds with an Amino Group during the Nanofiltration Process

Renata Zylla et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nanofiltration process of low molecular weight organic compounds in aqueous solution, focusing on the effect of amino group position on retention. The research also observes poor separation efficiency of oxidation products of certain pharmaceuticals on commercial membranes, and suggests that pre-ozonation can improve pollutant removal.

Application of Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis Membranes for Tannery Wastewater Reuse

Vilma Fernandez-Medrano et al.

Summary: Tanneries produce wastewater with high concentrations of suspended solids, organic matter, and salts. Treatment and reuse of these effluents are important for water conservation and cost-saving. This study tested nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes and found that reverse osmosis may be the most feasible technique for water reuse in the tannery industry.

Hydro-Geochemistry and Groundwater Quality Assessment of Ouargla Basin, South of Algeria

Zina Mansouri et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the hydro-chemical characteristics of the Mio Pliocene aquifer groundwaters in Ouargla, Algeria. The results show that the groundwater quality for irrigation is poor, and it has a negative effect on soil permeability.

Groundwater Characteristics and Quality in the Cascades Region of Burkina Faso

Moussa Diagne Faye et al.

Summary: Groundwater abstraction is the main source of water in rural areas, especially in the context of low rainfall. In order to better manage water resources, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of groundwater quality. This study aims to establish the status of groundwater quality in the Cascades region and improve understanding of groundwater resources for better preservation strategies and sustainability.

Ozone compatibility with polymer nanofiltration membranes

Sara Ouali et al.

Summary: In this study, the resistance of three commercial polymer nanofiltration membranes to ozone was investigated, revealing a decrease in pure water permeability for NP10 membrane and a dramatic increase for thin-film composite polyamide membranes. The polyethersulfone matrix showed good resistance to ozone, while the polyvinylpyrrolidone additive was substantially oxidized. The active layers of the NF90 and NF270 membranes were severely damaged after ozonation, leading to a sharp increase in permeability.

Comparison of Nanofiltration with Reverse Osmosis in Reclaiming Tertiary Treated Municipal Wastewater for Irrigation Purposes

MhdAmmar Hafiz et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of nanofiltration and reverse osmosis technologies for the reclamation of ultrafiltered municipal wastewater for irrigation. The permeate from the reverse osmosis process met FAO standards at lower pressures, but did not comply with irrigation water standards at higher pressures in terms of chloride, sodium, and calcium concentrations.

Groundwater Remediation of Volatile Organic Compounds Using Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis Membranes-A Field Study

Thomas J. Ainscough et al.

Summary: Groundwater contamination by chlorinated hydrocarbons is difficult to separate, with little published on the subject. Nanofiltration membranes showed good rejection rates, while reverse osmosis membranes initially removed VOCs effectively but later demonstrated limited removal due to fouling issues.

Mapping groundwater recharge in Africa from ground observations and implications for water security

Alan M. MacDonald et al.

Summary: Groundwater recharge rates in Africa were quantified for the period 1970-2019, revealing measurable recharge in most environments but lower rates in arid and semi-arid regions. The study found that only LTA rainfall is significantly related to LTA recharge at the continental scale, while other factors are important at local scales. The dataset provides valuable information for assessing groundwater development potential and water security in Africa.

Use of Multidisciplinary Approaches for Groundwater Recharge Mechanism Characterization in Basement Aquifers: Case of Sanon Experimental Catchment in Burkina Faso

Moussa Bruno Kafando et al.

Summary: In Burkina Faso, groundwater basins are crucial for drinking and irrigation purposes in rural areas, and sustainable management policies are necessary to meet long-term water needs. Through a study of the recharge mechanisms in the Sanon experimental site, researchers identified direct, indirect, and lateral recharge mechanisms in different parts of the aquifers. The presence of a piezometric dome in the central valley indicates preferential recharge zones and water movement patterns.
