In harm's way: Non-migration decisions of people at risk of slow-onset coastal hazards in Bangladesh

Bishawjit Mallick et al.

Summary: The study explores the factors influencing non-migration decisions in risk communities in coastal Bangladesh, finding that land ownership, social connectedness, and household economic strength are the strongest predictors of non-migration decisions. This is the first study to use the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) to understand migration-related behavior, with relevant findings for policy planning in vulnerable regions exposed to climate-related risks.

Impact of Farmers' Participation in Community-Based Organizations on Adoption of Flood Adaptation Strategies: A Case Study in a Char-Land Area of Sirajganj District Bangladesh

Md Omar Faruk et al.

Summary: This study finds that community-based organizations have a significant impact on farmers' adoption of flood adaptation strategies in Bangladesh. Farmers' flood experience, having children under 10 years, distance to the village center, and access to information are the determining factors for participation in CBOs. Policy intervention to strengthen and institutionalize CBOs is necessary for successful flood adaptation.
