A downscaling model for derivation of 3-D flood products from VIIRS imagery and SRTM/DEM

Sanmei Li et al.

Summary: Floods pose a major threat to human lives and property, and forecasting, simulation, and monitoring of floods play a crucial role in disaster relief and mitigation efforts. This study develops flood products using satellite data and enhances the spatial and vertical accuracy of the products through a downscaling process. Evaluation results show that the method provides reliable estimates of flood extent and water depth.

Does the Hook Structure Constrain Future Flood Intensification Under Anthropogenic Climate Warming?

Jiabo Yin et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of rising temperatures on precipitation and storm runoff extremes in mainland China, revealing a complex relationship between temperature and extreme precipitation and runoff events. While climate warming is projected to increase storm runoff extremes, the presence of hook structures in some regions indicates that extreme events may not continually intensify with rising temperatures.
