Influence of organically modified nanoclay and TiO2nanopowder on the properties ofAzadirachta indicawood flour-reinforced high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyvinyl chloride nanocomposite

Vamsi Rathnam et al.

Summary: High-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and poly(vinyl chloride) nanocomposites reinforced with Azadirachta indica wood flour, organomodified nanoclay, and titanium dioxide nanopowder were produced. The addition of organically modified nanoclay and nano-TiO2 significantly improved the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites, while reducing water absorption and increasing chemical resistance.

Extraction and determination of organic/inorganic pollutants in the ambient air of two cities located in metropolis of Tehran

Majid Kermani et al.

Summary: In this study, air pollution in two cities in the east of Tehran, Iran was investigated. The concentrations of PM2.5, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, PAHs, and asbestos fibers were measured. The results showed high levels of these pollutants, with transport fleets and coal incineration identified as the main sources. Stations close to airports, city terminals, and highways were found to be more polluted.

Highly efficient photothermal catalysis of toluene over Co3O4/TiO2 p-n heterojunction: The crucial roles of interface defects and band structure

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The unique properties presented in the interface of composite oxides have important implications for catalytic degradation. In this study, MOx/TiO2 composites were used for the full spectrum light-assisted photothermal catalytic degradation of toluene. A p-n heterojunction with interface defects was constructed between TiO2 and Co3O4, leading to improved photothermal performance. The relationship between interface properties, band structure, and catalytic performance was comprehensively studied based on experimental results and theoretical calculations.

Fast-Growing Magnetic Wood Synthesis by an In-Situ Method

Istie Rahayu et al.

Summary: Impregnation of jabon wood with Fe solution followed by treatment with either NaOH or NH4OH significantly impacts the density and dimensional stability of the wood. NaOH treatment results in higher polymer weight gain, while NH4OH treatment leads to higher anti-swelling efficiency. The density and bulking effect of the wood increase, with a decrease in water uptake.

Oxygen-vacancy-induced O2 activation and electron-hole migration enhance photothermal catalytic toluene oxidation

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study improves the photothermal catalytic performance of toluene by introducing oxygen vacancies (Vo) into a Co3O4/TiO2 composite. The Vo activates adsorbed molecular oxygen (O-2) to form reactive oxygen species, promoting deep oxidation of toluene. In addition, Vo captures excited electrons and inhibits the direct recombination of electron-hole pairs, thus promoting the photochemical process.

Kinetic and thermodynamic studies of the degradation of methylene blue by photo-Fenton reaction

Ibrahim Raheb et al.

Summary: The Syrian natural magnetite was used in a photoFenton reaction to remove methylene blue from aqueous solutions. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were evaluated, with the pseudo-first-order model being more suitable for describing the degradation process. The activation energy values indicated a low energy barrier for the degradation reaction, and thermodynamic parameters suggested the process was endothermic and spontaneous.

TiO2 Doped with Noble Metals as an Efficient Solution for the Photodegradation of Hazardous Organic Water Pollutants at Ambient Conditions

Amalia Maria Sescu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the synthesis method affects the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 doped with noble metal catalysts, with samples prepared by incipient wet impregnation showing higher photocatalytic activity. Experimental validation shows that TiO2-Pd/IWI exhibits high photocatalytic stability for the degradation of 2,4-DNP.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of UV/PS/TiO(2)NPs and UV/PI/TiO(2)NPs as hybrid advanced oxidation processes for the degradation of paraquat in aqueous solution. Results showed that under optimal conditions, the UV/PI/TiO(2)NPs process had higher degradation and mineralization efficiency than the UV/PS/TiO(2)NPs process.

RuO2/TiO2 photocatalysts prepared via a hydrothermal route: Influence of the presence of TiO2 on the reactivity of RuO2 in the artificial photosynthesis reaction

Eduardo Morais et al.

Summary: The study investigates the formation of nanocomposites by incorporating TiO2 (at two different loadings) with plasmonic RuO2 nanoparticles (with an average size of (3 +/- 0.7) nm). XRD results show the formation of RuO2 in the rutile phase, with high levels of TiO2 forming the rutile phase and lower levels forming the anatase phase. The TiO2 incorporation significantly enhances the reactivity of RuO2 in the artificial photosynthesis reaction under visible light, leading to increased catalyst activities and changed reaction selectivity.
