Effect of Polyvinylpyrrolidone on Polyvinylidene Fluoride/Hydroxyapatite-Blended Nanofiltration Membranes: Characterization and Filtration Properties

Summary: This paper elaborated on the fabrication process of nanofiltration PVDF membrane incorporating various quantities of hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and hydroxyapatite (HA) using a wet phase inversion method to improve its hydrophilicity. The PVDF/PVP/HA-blended membrane showed the highest water permeability, water content, and surface energy when 2 wt.% of PVP was introduced into the base polymer PVDF. This fabricated membrane, labeled as PVP 2.0, also showed the lowest contact angle and the highest surface porosity.

Constructing tubular/porous structures toward highly efficient oil/water separation in electrospun stereocomplex polylactide fibers via coaxial electrospinning technology

Summary: In this study, a coaxial electrospinning technology was used to prepare PLA fibers with superhydrophobicity and high porosity, showing excellent performance in oil/water separation. The prepared membrane exhibited high oil adsorption capacity, oil flux, and oil/water separation ability, as well as good stability during cycling and separating various emulsions. This work paves the way for the practical applications of environmentally friendly adsorption/separation membranes in oil/water cycling separation.

Novel antibacterial and antifouling PES nanofiltration membrane incorporated with green synthesized nickel-bentonite nanoparticles for heavy metal ions removal

Summary: In this study, nickel-bentonite nanoparticles were synthesized using Scrophularia striata extract and used as nanofillers for fabricating antifouling and antibacterial nanofiltration membranes. The modified membranes showed improved hydrophilicity, surface charge, and porosity, resulting in reduced fouling and higher rejection of heavy metal ions. The membranes also exhibited significant antibacterial capability, with 1 wt% NBNPs/PES membrane showing the highest antibacterial rate.

Enhanced polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane performance through fullerol Addition: A study towards optimization

Summary: Nanofiltration methods were evaluated for strontium removal from wastewater. Polyethersulfone (PES)/TiO2 nanoribbons (TNRs)-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) membranes were synthesized using phase inversion method and hydrothermal technique. The synthesized membranes were characterized and their performance was assessed. It was found that feed water temperature affects water flux and salt rejection, and double successive filtration showed high efficiency in strontium removal.

Molecular dynamics simulation of Polyacrylonitrile membrane performance in an aqueous environment for water purification

Summary: In this computational work, the Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) membrane was studied for water purification from Arsenide (As) pollution using molecular dynamics (MD) approach. Simulation results showed that temperature and total energy convergence affected the atomic stability, and higher temperature and permeability enhanced the purification process of the PAN membrane. The purification process weakened the mechanical properties of the membrane.

Incorporation of iptycene moieties into polymer backbone is an effective strategy to enhance desalination membrane performance.

Fabrication and characterization of polyethersulfone membranes functionalized with zinc phthalocyanines embedding different substitute groups

Summary: In this study, a novel PES composite membrane incorporated with different concentrations of zinc phthalocyanines was fabricated through phase inversion, leading to improved membrane morphology and performance. The hydrophobicity of the membrane decreased after blending ZnPc, while porosity and mean pore radius also decreased. The composite membranes showed enhanced antifouling properties and increased rejection of BSA compared to the pristine PES membrane. Photo-cleaning with appropriate light wavelengths effectively recovered membrane flux, demonstrating promising membrane cleaning capabilities.
