The Effects of Copolymer Compatibilizers on the Phase Structure Evolution in Polymer Blends-A Review

Ivan Fortelny et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the impact of block and graft copolymers on the phase structure formation and evolution in immiscible polymer blends. The study briefly describes the rules for prediction of copolymer compatibilization efficiency and compares them with experimental data, as well as discusses the theories of equilibrium distribution and blend interfacial tension. The paper also analyzes the effects of the compatibilizer on droplet breakup and coalescence mechanisms, presenting challenges in deriving a realistic theory and comparing experimental data with theoretical results.

Miscibility and Phase Separation in PMMA/SAN Blends Investigated by Nanoscale AFM-IR

Julia Resch et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phase separation of PMMA/SAN blends using a novel nanoscale AFM-IR technique, which allowed for the chemically identification and precise classification of phase morphology within the nm-regime. The research showed that in the miscible domain, no individual phases could be detected down to the nanometer range, but with increasing temperature, two different phases were formed with sharply defined boundaries. The onset of these changes was identified at temperatures around 100°C.

Photophysical Properties of the PVK-MEH-PPV/PCBM Composite for Organic Solar Cells Application: Synthesis, Characterization and Computational Study

Faten Abbassi et al.

Summary: The physical and chemical properties of a new organic composite containing PVK-MEH-PPV bi-block copolymer and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were examined through functionalization and charge transfer analysis. The interaction between donor and acceptor, as well as the effect of PCBM on the optical properties of the PVK-MEH-PPV matrix, were studied. Experimental and theoretical results suggested that the composite could be used as an active layer for organic solar cells.

Radiation-Based Crosslinking Technique for Enhanced Thermal and Mechanical Properties of HDPE/EVA/PU Blends

Jang-Gun Lee et al.

Summary: Crosslinking of polyolefin-based polymers can improve their thermal and mechanical properties, and polymer blending can further enhance these properties, making the material suitable for various applications. In this study, HDPE/EVA/PU blends were prepared by radiation crosslinking to improve the thermal and mechanical properties of HDPE, demonstrating better thermal stability, strength, and abrasion resistance than non-crosslinked HDPE.
