GO-SWCNT Buckypapers as an Enhanced Technology for Water Decontamination from Lead

Mariafrancesca Baratta et al.

Summary: Adsorption is considered the cheapest and most effective method for water decontamination. However, the powder consistency of existing materials is a major drawback. Recently, SWCNT buckypapers have been proposed as self-standing porous membranes for filtration and adsorption processes. In this study, the adsorption capacity and selectivity of GO-SWCNT buckypapers were evaluated, and their effective application for cheap and fast water decontamination from lead was confirmed.

Characterization of Cu(II) and Zn(II) Sorption onto Zeolite

Tomas Bakalar et al.

Summary: In this study, the sorption of copper and zinc ions from aqueous solution on zeolites was investigated using a batch sorption study approach and instrumental analytical approaches. The results showed that the maximum sorption capacities were higher for sulfates and the sorbent with smaller particle size. XRD and XPS analyses revealed that a zeolite with smaller particles adsorbed copper and zinc throughout the particle, while a zeolite with bigger particles had copper and zinc concentrated on the surface. The study findings can be used to evaluate the sorption efficiency of zeolites in the treatment of copper and zinc contaminated effluents.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose hydrogel modified with tannic acid as methylene blue adsorbent

Feng Ning et al.

Summary: This work presents an effective strategy to enhance the methylene blue adsorption performance of cellulose-based hydrogel through tannic acid modification. The modified hydrogel showed a homogeneous pore structure and high swelling ratio, leading to excellent MB adsorption capacity. Adsorption experiments demonstrated a maximum adsorption capacity of 3438.27 mg g(-1) and thermodynamic studies indicated a spontaneous, exothermic process with ion exchange reactions between MB molecules and hydroxyl/carboxyl groups.

Copper Tannic Acid-Coordinated Metal-Organic Nanosheets for Synergistic Antimicrobial and Antifouling Coatings

Jia Li et al.

Summary: In this study, copper tannic acid (CuTA) nanosheets with excellent antibacterial activity were successfully prepared and showed fine antibacterial and antifouling performance after being hybridized with acrylic resin. The CuTA nanosheets exhibited significant killing rates against Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis and Gram-negative Escherichia coli, disrupting their cell walls and inhibiting their proliferation and growth. The hybrid coating of CuTA nanosheets and acrylic resin displayed promising antimicrobial effectiveness and antialgae properties under a low CuTA load, suggesting potential applications in marine antifouling coatings.

Hamed Issaoui et al.

Summary: Solid free-formaldehyde phenolic foams were prepared by mechanical foaming of tannins and lignin alkaline liquor, and utilized as bio-adsorbents for heavy metals removal from aqueous solutions. The adsorption capacities for Cu2+, Cd2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+ reached 46.5, 41, 29.1, and 100.9 mg/g, respectively, with the adsorption process following specific isotherms and kinetics models. These porous materials show potential for cost-effective and efficient removal of heavy metals from polluted water.
