Alternative Paradigms in Animal Health Decisions: A Framework for Treating Animals Not Only as Commodities

Noguera Z. Liz Paola et al.

Summary: A framework is proposed to explore the non-monetary value of animals in public health decision-making, aiming to complement existing health metrics and provide a more comprehensive assessment of animal and human health. This approach takes into consideration the emotional, societal, and ecological values associated with animals, going beyond their monetary worth.

The burden of zoonoses in Paraguay: A systematic review

Liz Paola Noguera Zayas et al.

Summary: This study estimated the burden of zoonoses in Paraguay by integrating DALYs and zDALYs, finding that the total DALYs were approximately 19,384 and zDALYs were approximately 62,178 based on 50 zoonotic diseases suggested by WHO, OIE, and the National Health in Paraguay. Priority pathogens for DALYs included E. coli, Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania spp, and Toxoplasma gondii, while for zDALYs, the most important pathogens were Brucella spp, E. coli, Trypanosoma cruzi, and Fasciola hepatica.

Systematic review of the status of veterinary epidemiological research in two species regarding the FAIR guiding principles

Anne Meyer et al.

Summary: This systematic review assessed the FAIRness of datasets associated with peer-reviewed articles in veterinary epidemiology research published since 2017, showing that most datasets used in non-molecular epidemiological studies were not available, while data availability was higher for molecular epidemiology papers. The available data objects generally scored well for Findable, Accessible, and Reusable indicators, but Interoperability was a more challenging aspect.
