Molecular-scale spatio-chemical control of the activating-inhibitory signal integration in NK cells

Esti Toledo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that a 40-nm gap between activating and inhibitory ligands provided optimal inhibitory conditions. This nanoengineered multifunctional platform offers important insights into the spatial mechanism of inhibitory immune checkpoints.

Protein induced lipid demixing in homogeneous membranes

Bernd Henning Stumpf et al.

Summary: The establishment of protein signaling platforms in membranes relies on specific lipid environments, the origin of which has been highly debated. A model of protein-induced local demixing of lipid membranes shows the qualitative formation of lipid domains induced by the anchoring of reconstituted actin in flat supported lipid bilayers, even at temperatures above the miscibility critical point of the membrane.
