In vivo antibabesial activity and bioinformatic analysis of compounds derived from the Medicines for Malaria Venture box against Babesia microti

Mohamed Abdo Rizk et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the inhibitory effects of Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) Malaria Box compounds against bovine Babesia and identified new effective drugs. MMV019881 showed the strongest efficacy in vivo. Structural similarity analysis revealed the maximum similarity between MMV007285, diminazene aceturate, and imidocarb dipropionate. The distance matrix and molecular weight correlation highlighted the potential of MMV667488, ID, and CF as combination therapy for treating babesiosis.

Evaluation of the inhibitory effect of Zingiber officinale rhizome on Babesia and Theileria parasites

Mohamed Abdo Rizk et al.

Summary: The study showed that the methanolic extract of Zingiber officinale rhizome (ZOR) has inhibitory effects on the in vitro growth of bovine Babesia and equine piroplasm parasites, with B. divergens being the most susceptible. Additionally, the combination of ZOR with diminazene aceturate (DA) or anti-B. bigemina MMV hits enhanced the inhibitory activity against these parasites, making ZOR a potential medicinal plant for babesiosis treatment.

Immunomodulatory Effect of Vitamin C on Proinflammatory Cytokines Production in Ossimi Lambs (Ovis aries) with Pneumonic Pasteurellosis

Mohamed Abdo Rizk et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that vitamin C, in combination with tulathromycin, selectively influenced the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in lambs with pneumonic pasteurellosis, returning the levels of certain cytokines to normal. These findings highlight the potential of vitamin C as an anti-inflammatory drug and ideal immunomodulatory agent in the treatment of respiratory diseases.
