Fitness costs associated with chlorantraniliprole resistance in Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) strains with different genetic backgrounds

Fernando Elias Oliveira Padovez et al.

Summary: The study revealed that there was no fitness cost associated with chlorantraniliprole resistance in the Spodoptera frugiperda strain with the near-isogenic background. On the other hand, a significant fitness cost was detected in the strain with a different genetic background. This suggests that the genetic background of resistant strains plays a crucial role in determining fitness costs.

Inheritance and fitness cost of buprofezin resistance in a near-isogenic, field-derived strain and insecticide resistance monitoring of Laodelphax striatellus in China

Bin Zeng et al.

Summary: Chinese field populations of Laodelphax striatellus developed high-level buprofezin resistance within the first four years. The resistance was stable for about ten years and persisted even when buprofezin selection pressure was absent. Low-level resistance to several other insecticides was also detected, while nitenpyram and triflumezopyrim showed no resistance.

Frequencies and mechanisms of pesticide resistance in Tetranychus urticae field populations in China

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study assessed the pesticide resistance, target site mutations, and detoxification enzyme activities of seven field populations of Tetranychus urticae in China. The results revealed varying levels of resistance to different pesticides, frequencies of mutations in target genes, and higher detoxification enzyme activities in certain populations, suggesting the presence of multiple resistance mechanisms in T. urticae field populations.

Over-expression in cis of the midgut P450 CYP392A16 contributes to abamectin resistance in Tetranychus urticae

Kyriaki Maria Papapostolou et al.

Summary: Cytochrome P450-mediated metabolism is an important mechanism in insecticide resistance. This study focuses on CYP392A16, a P450 gene from the pest Tetranychus urticae, and reveals its localization in the midgut epithelial cells and its contribution to abamectin resistance. Silencing of CYP392A16 reduces insecticide resistance, and the allele derived from the resistant strain demonstrates higher abamectin resistance when transferred into a susceptible genetic background. Functional analysis indicates cis-regulation of CYP392A16 gene expression.

Cross resistance, inheritance and fitness advantage of cyetpyrafen resistance in two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae

Jingyu Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the inheritance and characteristics of cyetpyrafen resistance in Tetranychus urticae, including cross resistance, incomplete dominance, and polygenic inheritance. Additionally, the resistant strain showed a fitness advantage. Therefore, rational application and preventive strategies should be implemented to sustain the efficacy of cyetpyrafen against T. urticae.

Genetics and fitness costs of resistance to flupyradifurone in Bemisia tabaci from China

Wang Ran et al.

Summary: This study assessed the fitness costs and mode of inheritance associated with resistance to flupyradifurone in B. tabaci. It found that the resistance had varying degrees of dominance and resulted in fitness costs for the resistant populations. These findings provide valuable knowledge for formulating pest management strategies in vegetable production.

Characterization of field-evolved resistance to pyridalyl in a near-isogenic line of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella

Ran Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that a field-collected population of Plutella xylostellahas developed significant resistance to pyridalyl, with even stronger resistance observed after selection. The inheritance of pyridalyl resistance was found to be autosomal and incompletely recessive. A near-isogenic line established from the resistant population exhibited high resistance to pyridalyl with no cross-resistance, but also demonstrated significant fitness costs compared to the susceptible strain. Further research will focus on the mechanism of target-site resistance.

Summary: This study investigated the fitness cost associated with phosphine resistance in the rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus. The results showed that strongly phosphine resistant strains did not incur significant fitness costs under suboptimal conditions, which will have implications for pest management strategies.

Summary: The study validated the functional role of the GluCl3 I321T mutation in abamectin resistance, with results showing a complex phenotypic strength. Using CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing, it was demonstrated that the I321T mutation reduced the susceptibility of T. urticae to abamectin.

Delta class glutathione S-transferase (TuGSTd01) from the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae is inhibited by abamectin

Leily Daneshian et al.

Summary: GSTs catalyze the reaction between reduced glutathione and xenobiotic compounds. In the herbivorous spider mite Tetranychus urticae, a set of 32 genes encoding GST proteins was identified. TuGSTd01 was characterized as a glutathione S-transferase, with certain key residues being essential for its enzymatic activity. Additionally, increased GST activity in abamectin-resistant T. urticae populations appears to be part of a compensatory feedback loop to counteract the effects of the acaricide.
